    Common questions

    What homeowners ask before choosing.

Answers about the showroom, products, design options, installation boundaries, and what happens next.

What can I compare in the Waltham showroom?+

You can compare real cabinet doors and drawers from six cabinet brands, countertop samples and slabs, tile, and Top Knobs cabinet hardware. A designer helps you compare construction, finish, care, and fit for the room.

Do I need an appointment to visit?+

The showroom is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, by appointment. Booking ahead makes sure a designer is available for your questions and material selections.

Can I buy products without hiring Bay State for a full remodel?+

Yes. The Sales Only package is for clients who already have a plan or contractor. We supply and deliver the selected products. Countertops are the exception: every countertop we sell is templated, fabricated, and installed by Bay State Kitchen Gallery.

Can you design the room if my own contractor will install it?+

Yes. The Design & Sales package covers measurement, layout, drawings, product specification, and procurement. Your contractor installs from the approved design and written specification.

What is included in Design, Sales & Remodeling?+

Bay State Kitchen Gallery handles the design and product selections. Bay State Remodeling carries the approved plan through the licensed construction work under the remodeling contract. The exact scope is written into your proposal before work begins.

    Are countertops sold without installation?+

No. Every countertop sold through the showroom is templated from the installed cabinets, fabricated for the room, and installed by Bay State Kitchen Gallery. There is no take-away slab option.

Can I buy cabinet hardware on its own?+

Yes. Choose Top Knobs hardware in the showroom and we coordinate the order and delivery. Installation is yours when hardware is bought by itself; inside a remodeling project it is specified and installed with the cabinets.

Which cabinet brands do you carry?+

The showroom carries Fabuwood, Mantra, Mid Continent, StarMark, Europa, and Elleganza full custom. The Cabinet Guide explains construction and lets you compare the source-backed facts for the lines.

What warranty comes with the cabinetry?+

Warranty coverage varies by manufacturer and series. The cabinet pages show only terms confirmed in the current source documents; any unconfirmed term is confirmed in writing at the time of quote. Installation coverage is stated separately in the remodeling agreement when installation is included.

What is the practical difference between framed and frameless cabinets?+

Framed cabinets add a face frame to the front of the box. Frameless, or full-access, cabinets attach the doors to the box sides and usually provide a wider opening. Either can be appropriate; box, hardware, door, and finish construction matter along with frame type.

Can you match cabinetry that is already in my home?+

Sometimes. Bring a door or clear photos to the showroom. We compare the existing profile, material, finish, and aging against current samples and tell you whether a direct match, a coordinated contrast, or refinishing is the more realistic option.

Do the design packages include 3D renderings?+

The Design & Sales and Design, Sales & Remodeling paths include drawings and 3D views as the design is developed. The Sales Only package does not include a room-design package.

How is the project schedule set?+

The schedule is confirmed after the room, product availability, permitting needs, and construction scope are known. Cabinet and finish lead times are checked before ordering, and the approved schedule belongs in the project documents rather than evergreen website copy.

What should I bring to a showroom visit?+

Bring photos, rough room dimensions, inspiration images, and any appliance models already selected. For replacement cabinet hardware, bring the center-to-center measurement from one existing pull.

What does 'inset' mean and why does it cost more?+

Inset doors sit flush inside the face frame rather than overlapping it. The gap between door and frame has to be perfectly consistent (typically 1/16" or 3/32"), which means tighter manufacturing tolerances and more time fitting each door at installation. The look is furniture-grade and traditional. You pay for the precision, not just the style.

Full overlay vs. partial overlay: does it matter?+

Full overlay doors cover almost the entire face frame, so you see very little frame between adjacent doors. Partial overlay exposes more of the frame. Most kitchens we specify today use full overlay; it's cleaner, and the hardware options are wider. Partial overlay is sometimes used to match an existing kitchen or to hit a tighter budget on a specific line.

Plywood box vs. MDF box: which should I ask for?+

Plywood boxes hold screws better over time, handle moisture better, and are lighter. MDF boxes can be finished more smoothly and are sometimes used in painted slab-door lines where the visual is paramount. For most Greater Boston kitchens, where humidity swings with the seasons, we default to plywood box construction. MDF center panels in doors are fine; it's MDF boxes where you want to pay attention.

Can I get the look of marble without the maintenance?+

Yes. Several quartz lines now produce Calacatta and Statuario patterns that read as marble from two feet away. The main trade-offs: quartz is a consistent pattern repeated across slabs, while natural marble has unique veining that never repeats. Quartz resists staining and etching better; marble develops a patina that some homeowners prefer. We have both in the showroom; the comparison is easier in person than in photos.

Can I supply my own appliances?+

Yes. We'll incorporate any appliances you've already purchased or have on order. We'll need confirmed model numbers before finalizing the cabinet layout, since appliance dimensions drive cutout sizes, filler widths, and panel depths. If you haven't chosen appliances yet, we can share the spec sheet for any model we've installed and let you decide from there.

What's the difference between custom and semi-custom cabinetry?+

Semi-custom cabinetry is built in standard size increments (typically 3-inch steps) with a fixed menu of finishes, door styles, and interior options. You choose from what the manufacturer offers, which covers most kitchens. Custom cabinetry is sized and specified to exact dimensions, with no constraints on finish, wood species, or configuration. Semi-custom is faster to produce and costs less; custom makes sense when you have unusual dimensions, a specific finish not in a standard line, or a design that requires non-standard heights or depths. Most Greater Boston projects we specify use semi-custom from lines like Fabuwood, Mid Continent, or StarMark; they cover the range without the lead times.

Can you work with my existing layout?+

Absolutely. If you’re happy with your current layout, we can work within that framework to update cabinetry, countertops, and other features. We aim to enhance the look and function of your space without requiring a complete redesign if it’s not necessary.

    Do you offer financing options?+

We currently do not offer direct financing options through Bay State Kitchen Gallery. However, we are happy to work with you to ensure the project stays within your budget and can guide you toward third-party financing resources.

Do you provide custom cabinet colors and finishes?+

Yes, we offer a variety of custom colors and finishes to match your specific preferences. Our cabinetry brands provide an extensive palette of stains, paints, and glazes, giving you the flexibility to create a look that complements your home.

What hardware options are available for cabinets?+

We offer a wide range of cabinet hardware, including handles, knobs, and pulls in various materials and finishes. You can choose from classic metal finishes like chrome, nickel, or brass, as well as more modern or decorative options to complete your look.

Can I bring my own design ideas?+

Absolutely. We encourage you to share any design ideas, inspiration, or sketches you have. Whether you want to stick to a specific look or need help refining your vision, we’ll work with you to bring your ideas to life, ensuring the final design reflects your personal style and meets your practical needs.

Who will be my point of contact during the project?+

You will have a dedicated project manager who will be your main point of contact throughout the entire process. They will keep you updated, answer any questions, and ensure everything runs smoothly from start to finish.

What’s your policy on project delays?+

We strive to meet the agreed-upon project timeline, but unforeseen delays can sometimes occur due to material availability or site conditions. If a delay happens, we will communicate with you immediately, provide updated timelines, and work to minimize any inconvenience.

How do you handle unexpected issues during installation?+

If unexpected issues arise during installation, our team will address them promptly and transparently. Your project manager will inform you of any changes and discuss potential solutions to ensure the project stays on track with minimal disruption.

What factors affect the cost of cabinetry?+

Several factors influence the cost of cabinetry, including the material type (e.g., solid wood vs. laminate), the level of customization, the size of the project, and the selected finishes and hardware. Additional features like soft-close mechanisms or specialized storage solutions can also impact the price.

How do I maintain my new cabinets and countertops?+

Maintaining your cabinetry is simple. We recommend regularly wiping down cabinets with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap to prevent buildup. Avoid harsh chemicals that can damage the finish. For countertops, care instructions vary based on the material: marble and granite may require sealing, while quartz is typically low-maintenance. We provide detailed care instructions after installation.

What should I do if I notice an issue after installation?+

If you notice any issues after installation, contact us right away. Whether it’s a minor adjustment or a more significant concern, our team will assess the problem and schedule a time to fix it as part of our after-service commitment.
